I have been praising both Lightroom and Photoshop for a long time, but I’ll admit I haven’t been getting Photoshop very often. Not because I’ve been using either of the other apps that are more advanced, but because I just haven’t wanted to switch away from Lightroom. For me, the most attractive feature in Lightroom is that I don’t have to rely on Photoshop for basic things like making adjustment brush presets (compared to the way I had to rely on Photoshop in previous versions; if Lightroom can’t handle something simple, it won’t be something I’d use). Sure, having both is great because you can audition and compare the two, but you probably don’t need to do that unless you’re a true convert to one of these apps. Since I’ve become a true convert to Lightroom, though, it follows that Lightroom will take over my workflow (if it wants). At the end of the day, though, there is no way around the fact that Lightroom is designed as a beginner, entry-level photo editor. But, I do believe that customers can like Lightroom and supplement it with Photoshop for more advanced work.

The latest version of the Adobe Creative Suite is good (very good), but it came with a number of important changes. The fact is that the CS5 used by almost everyone doesn’t have major or even sensible changes over its predecessor that was released a year ago. The exact same team and technology still work on the CS6, which has add-on modules for things like 4K video. So if you’re using CS6 and you’re not worried about the lack of major changes in the most recent Adobe product, you’re missing something.

The first thing I noticed about the dailies is that it seems like it’s still in Beta. However, after browsing through the videos and reading a bit more, I noticed that it looks like they are doing some great things with things like YouTube videos. I can also see that other professional photographers have managed to produce wonderful photos using Lightroom as well. One thing is clear, with the right tools and knowledge, anyone can learn how to use Adobe Photoshop. This is great in a sense as it removes the latest editions of Photoshop from the barrier and opens up the doors for a wider community of contributors.

For the past 25 years, Adobe Photoshop has been the standard tool in the digital arts community. That community has grown over the years and is a major contributing factor in the success of Adobe Photoshop. But that open source community could use some help.

Adobe has added a new feature in Photoshop CC 2019. Now any image you open in Photoshop gets converted, with the option to save it as OpenEXR. All you need to do is to select ‘Save as OpenEXR’ to convert your photo.
