After 3 years of anticipation, the long awaited movie is finally out! But I have a confession to make, I have never seen this movie. Or at least I cant recall the experience of watching it. Pokiri to me was just some random teenage romance that gave birth to a comedy of errors and endless crass hard punch lines. The makers probably can’t resist but to slap us in the face with those stolen lines, and yet again, can’t resist to re-tread the same old foot-path. Its so amazingly bad that I have no intention of discussing it. If there is a justifiable way to make this gem of a film, I would like to know it.
In a good movie, the hero is no more than a link between us and the story, a manipulator of motivation and emotion, a face for our ideology. He is the essential player in the movie, not the protagonist. Superstar Mahesh Babu has not even come close to this level. He is essentially just an aging action star, who makes what little sense his idea of screen presence. Its his role that makes Pokiri so utterly painful to watch. He is puffed up with vanity, he caters to it as if it is his right, and the story just magnifies it, big time! Not to mention that in the end, it appears that it was his need for attention that got the best of him. How disappointing.
We got a lot of wrong about Pokiri, but the fact that the makers have not distanced themselves from the same flaws we have obviously spelt out, speaks volumes about the acceptance of our generation to this movie. They will have made more money. That should be enough.
