the story of the game will take place in the 70’s, just as in the original dragon ball series. the main character is again a young gohan who fights to protect his family and the earth against the evil cell.

the game is extremely different in terms of graphics and gameplay mechanics from previous budokai games. the game features 2d graphics of an extremely high quality, and it contains both 3d rendered sprites and hand-drawn 2d sprites. also, the game features a more fluid combat system, which involves more attack options and a variety of different attacks and techniques than previous budokai games.

the game also features several notable changes. there are now five characters instead of four, and they are the same ones from the original dragon ball z anime. these characters are: gohan, piccolo, vegeta, goku, and frieza. also, in addition to making the game playable with a sword, it also features hand-to-hand combat.

the game features several interesting gameplay mechanics. aside from the fact that the game is controlled with a joystick, the developers allowed for the character to move at a faster pace than previous budokai games. this allowed for a much more fluid fighting system, since players can change direction of movement during attacks and combo attacks. the second new feature is the “aura burst”. when you use this technique, the character will move at a higher speed and the character will be more agile and powerful. the aura burst also allows for more powerful attacks by using super attacks, which allow the player to do more damage than normal attacks.

soon after, gotenks arrives at the dragon balls. he consults his counterpart piccolo, who praises gotenks for having guts to be honest with vegeta. after they are split into seven, gotenks, vegeta and gohan go to earth, while kid trunks, chi-chi, krillin, tien shinhan, android 17, yamcha and android 18 stay at the lookout.
back on earth, gotenks wishes for everyone to return home. everyone returns but goku and the others continue through the portal to hell. after goku, vegeta, gohan, gotenks, pikkon, krillin, tien shinhan, android 17 and android 18 arrive to hell’s gate, they find gotenks and vegeta. vegeta explains that they went to hell to save everyone because he feared they would be destroyed by buu’s evil energy. he then reveals that he could not handle the evil energy and went to hell. soon, vegeta orders gotenks to go after babidi, and tells him to kill him. gotenks runs off, leaving vegeta and gohan behind. near the gate to the hell, goku and the others see gotenks, who sees them and transforms to his super saiyan 2 form. he is soon overwhelmed by the three martial arts warriors, vegeta, gohan and goku. vegeta is soon overwhelmed by goku and gohan and becomes weak. while gotenks and the others are fighting goku, gohan and vegeta, all the soldiers of hell are sent to attack piccolo.
while the other fighters are distracted by the soldiers, the soldiers of hell continue to attack piccolo. the soldiers are soon forced back by piccolo’s mighty energy. the dragon in the power of piccolo opens his mouth. a ball of dark energy is soon thrown at vegeta, who is immediately engulfed in it. vegeta is dragged into the hell, carrying gohan with him. gohan begs piccolo to save vegeta and piccolo relents.
