The R5 3DS was released shortly after the R4 3DS, on the 18th June 2007. Again this was created to be compatible with the newer consoles. It was a fairly big change, with the console being smaller and largely different in shape. An adapter was able to be used to take it out of the Nintendo 3DS console and into a micro-SD card slot.

I have uploaded all the files necessary to flash your card, but it might not work. You need to be cautious while installing. It’s a great help if you have a 3DS or DSi 1.4.3, or any version that the Official 1.42 flasher does not support.We recommend using a compatible 3DS or DSi with at least firmware version 1.2.5. If you have a 3DS or DSi with firmware higher than 1.2.5 then you can use the official R4i firmware to flash it up, but you’ll need to make sure to use a 1.42 compatible 3DS or DSi first, and then you’ll need to use a compatible lower model.Update at your own peril, warnings are in bold.

Before you get started with flashing your card, you’ll need to download, install and run the flashgear backup tool. It’s under the /flashgear folder. I’ve included a small video clip on how to use it.
