The Simon HiHat VST plugin was developed to be a hybrid synth+sample module. The “VAR” button switches on/off an internal LFO which introduces a slightly modulation in the analog and digital pitch parameter to create some variation in the sound to avoid the “gun machine effect”. The snare drum is mapped on D1-E1.

The HiHat is a close-mouthed, hollow wooden mallet-like instrument. It is primarily used in jazz and blues music and dates back to the early 1920s in jazz orchestras. However, it has also been used for many years in rock, dance, and funk. Though it was commonly used by The Beatles in their studio recordings, the Beatles never used the instrument live.
It is most commonly known for its usage in the electronic music genres, where it is most often used to create a variety of percussive sounds. It is also quite common in dance music to use the hi-hats to create a beat by hitting the hi-hats with a stick. It is also commonly used in drum machine and other electronic drum tracks, as well as in contemporary dance.
This plugin was designed to be a hybrid synth+sample module, bringing the power of a keyboard instrument with a control surface (the CV control) and analog control (the LFO). Additionally, it can process any sound source for you in real time, including your audio input signal.

The HiHat is a solid state synthesizer with a unique and authentic vibe. It is based on an analog oscillator, with a sawtooth modulation signal controlled via an ADSR envelope. It has also a lowpass filter, a VCA, LFO, digital pitchbend and external FX.
LFO:
The HiHat has a built-in low frequency oscillator that can be used for synthesizing sounds that mimic such traditional instruments as the snare drum, the bass, or even the piano.
Modulation:
The HiHat synthesizer has also a modulation section with two LFOs for routing a modulation signal to the pitch or the ADSR envelope. The modulation output can also be routed to one of the four input signals. By pressing the CC button you can choose the specific destination.
When you have a modulation from the LFOs and you apply a modulation of 0-127 to the ADSR envelope, the sound will go from almost completely quiet to being completely loud.
Pitch Bend:
The HiHat has a pitchbend section where you can bend the pitch down to -12 semitones or up to 12 semitones. The pitchbend output can be routed to one of the four input signals.
LFOs:
The HiHat has two independent LFOs that can be used for adding timbre and movement to your synthesizer. The LFOs can be routed to one of the four input signals.
External FX:
The HiHat has a FX section that lets you use any of the 16 FX slots (not to be confused with the 4 main filter slots). Each slot can be used as an LFO, gate, filter cutoff, cutoff, resonance, delay, or modulation, with very versatile results. The FX output can be routed to one of the four input signals.
The HiHat has also two different envelope generators. The ADSR envelop generator has four different curves. These envelopes can be routed to one of the four input signals.
The VCA (Voice Control Amplifier) has a voltage control. The VCA has two output levels and its output can be routed to one of the four input signals.
Filter:
The HiHat has a lowpass filter with four different filter types. These filter types can be routed to one of the four input signals. The filter output can also be routed to one of the four input signals.
