As you can see, there is absolutely no change in the gray scale intensity of the image, there is no problem. I saved the same image as before but this time through 8.64 plane values.

Here are the results:

I’m sure others with more experience than I have could answer this as well. Can someone please tell me the reason why on 8.64 plane it shows only half the image and has a darker edge? Is there a way to fix this? Is it due to the fact the image was originally printed in black and white and needed to be converted? I don’t know what the answer is but I would really appreciate any help!

There are several issues here. First, you had originally saved the image as 8 bpp.
In the second image you saved the image as 16 bpp. This did not in itself have any visible effect on your image; it just put more bits in it. In the second image the grey level has been halved. That’s because you see half the grey level in 8 bpp, half the grey level in 16 bpp.

To get an 8 bpp image, you should be using the correct camera setting to save the image. The screenshot is from using 8 bpp but selecting a camera setting which gives a 8 bpp image, not a 16 bpp image.
However, there is no reason why you can’t use both camera settings at the same time. For example, in your previous question, you used an 8 bpp mode which gave a half grey image (that is, half the grey level, equivalent to a half grey level in a 16 bpp image). You could save both an 8 bpp image and a 16 bpp image (the old one as 8 bpp, the new one as 16 bpp). Depending on what you want to do, that may or may not be the right solution.

Also, the software that converted the image to gray was probably doing a bilinear interpolation. If you look at the image right-click and choose ‘Image > Image properties…’ and then ‘Image Properties’ and click the ‘Image Size’ tab, you will see that the pixels are 4 times 8.64 times 8.64. That’s the size of the block of pixels being converted, one 4 x 4 group of 8.64 x 8.64 pixels. This means that the actual grey
